Are the math lessons parent- or student-led?
Simply Good and Beautiful Math Levels K–3 are parent-led. This means you and your child complete the short lessons—and have fun learning—together. These levels also include review and/or independent practice sections that most students can complete on their own.
Even though you teach these courses, no prep time or math knowledge is necessary. Each course book is open and go! Simply read along, following the instructions for each lesson.
Simply Good and Beautiful Math Levels 4–7 are mainly student-led, with the exception of a short parent-led mental math activity each day. At these levels, children watch a video and/or read through a mini lesson, complete lesson practice, and finish with a short review section
What do I need to know about the video lessons?
Simply Good and Beautiful Math Levels 4 and above include short video lessons. These videos are beautiful and engaging—which may not be the first words that come to mind when you think of typical math videos!
Our pilot families gave our math videos rave reviews and say the videos are truly an incredible way to learn math! Math concepts are explained very clearly with graphics to help students understand the concepts better.
We completely understand that some parents are hesitant when it comes to screens. Our homeschool math videos include interactive example problems and additional instruction not found in the written mini lessons. For these reasons, we do not recommend skipping the videos. However, when watching them isn’t possible, the mini lessons are good alternatives.
How do I teach math to multiple children?
Homeschooling multiple children with ease was a driving force for creating Simply Good and Beautiful Math! We want it to be truly possible to teach multiple children at different levels while still offering an incredibly effective and enjoyable homeschool math program.
Since every level includes independent work, and because lessons are so concise, a parent can teach several different levels in about an hour! Watch our video “Homeschooling with Multiple Families” for more ideas on teaching multiple children.
With Simply Good and Beautiful Math, your child receives a comprehensive math education without spending hours each day on math!
How much time does a math lesson take to complete?
Lesson times increase gently as your child advances through each level. They are long enough to provide sufficient practice, but not so long that children become bored or overwhelmed.
Additionally, the short, powerful lessons are efficient, so students (and parents) do not waste time. Your child receives a comprehensive math education without spending hours each day on math.
How do I know which math level to start with?
Simply Good and Beautiful Math courses align with typical public school grades. However, we know that children progress at different paces, so the placement tests on our website provide a better picture of where your child should begin.
We strongly recommend you give your child a placement test before purchasing math based on his or her grade level!
Placing students in the appropriate math level greatly reduces frustration for both you and them. When children are able to learn and absorb the information rather than struggle through it, they feel more confident and excited about their learning throughout the year.
Is this a spiral or a mastery program?
Simply Good and Beautiful Math is a spiral homeschool math program. In each lesson of a spiral math course, your child practices a new concept and then reviews previous concepts.

Is the math box optional, and can it be used by more than one child?
Students use these components throughout the entire course, so they really do need a math box. The perfectly sized and thoughtfully selected items in the box give children valuable practice in a hands-on way. The math box is non-consumable and can be used again with other children in your family.

Hello! I received our Level 4 Math set and am wondering.. why are the pages perforated? Are they meant to be ripped out before or after completing? Thanks!
Hi Megan! Thank you for your interest in Simply Good and Beautiful Math! The pages of the Math Course Book are perforated so they can be torn out, if desired. You also have the option to keep them in the book without removing the pages. We hope you enjoy the course and appreciate the time you took to reach out!
I need some ideas with how to grade my son in Math. He is in level 5. Obviously, thoroughness, effort and correctness but practical idea of how to do this.
Thank you for reaching out, Emily! If you are seeking items to review in addition to accuracy, you could consider the difficulty level of each problem and how legible your son’s writing is. Deciding on a point value and sharing the guidelines up front with your child will help set them up for a successful year. A printed or spreadsheet would help to keep track of the records. What level in the coming years will be algebra?
Hi Emilee! Math 7 is expected to release in early 2024 with Math 8/pre-algebra in the coming years after that. We are committed to offering homeschool math through Math 8. While we hope to offer high school math courses in the future, we cannot guarantee it. We know that children begin to diversify the math courses they take based on future careers, college, or other goals in high school so that may be helpful to consider as you evaluate the proper math course for your younger children.
