Language Arts: Level 1

The 120 engaging parent-led lessons in the Level 1 Course Book are open-and-go and were carefully designed to reduce teaching time, yet be academically robust. The course covers over 80 foundational principles, such as phonics, spelling rules, spelling patterns, homophones, reading comprehension, alphabetical order, art appreciation, and so much more. Each lesson in the Level 1 Course Book will direct you to work on these beautiful and fun Reading Booster Cards and/or Books. The child will go through the Cards and Books at his or her own pace. Once a card is mastered, your child selects a sticker from the sticker sheets in the back and places it on the “Mastered” circle at the bottom of the card.

Each card focuses on a certain phonics principle or a group of first grade sight words. Review cards are placed intermittently throughout the cards. These Reading Booster Cards will also tell you when to read the Reading Booster Books. These adorable and fascinating books correlate directly with each card.

Because the Reading Booster B Cards include consumable stickers and has maze pages that are consumable, they may not be reusable for your family. You may choose to purchase a set for each child completing the course.

The Reading Booster B Books Set includes 20 adorable and fascinating books that correlate directly with the Reading Booster B Cards. The Reading Booster Cards will tell you when to read the Reading Booster Books. These books can be read as many times as desired for review and for cementing principles.

Each book focuses on just one or a select few reading concepts, phonics principles, word families, or first grade sight word groups that were just learned on the corresponding Reading Booster Card. The books also only contain words including phonics principles the child has already learned.

My Second Nature Reader includes 20 short stories for beginning readers at a first grade reading level. Each story focuses on one or two phonics concepts or groups of first grade sight words. My Second Nature Reader follows the exact scope and sequence of the Reading Booster B Cards.

My Second Nature Reader is not integrated into the language arts course, but is designed to give the child extra independent reading practice at exactly the level the child is on. The Good and the Beautiful’s wonderful readers boost confidence and makes reading less overwhelming and a more enjoyable and positive experience.

Handwriting Level 1 is for children in first grade and focuses on the correct print formation of letters and numbers. This course introduces 2–3 new letters at a time, going in the order of the most used letters, and introduces short words and sentences near the end. Text size is reduced halfway through the course as the child gains the motor skills for smaller print. 

The Good and the Beautiful handwriting courses include images, artwork, poetry, Bible verses, and quotes that support high character, faith, nature, and creativity. Drawing activities are incorporated throughout the course to make handwriting more enjoyable and increase fine motor skills. This workbook includes 100 sheets, which is 3–4 sheets per week for an average school year.
