Nice illustrations and a really cute story about taking the initiative to get the things you need or want while helping others along the way. It was a great read aloud!
A wonderful book to read with the whole family. Enjoy adorable pictures as you read about a kind old woman who goes around doing good wherever she goes. She shares what she has and lifts the burdens of all that she meets. A beautiful example of who I want to become.
This books has beautiful illustrations, held everyone’s attention, and made for great conversations afterwards. I’ve been delighted by the different conversations and lessons my children have gleaned from this book. We all enjoyed it!
We loved the illustrations, the story line, and the theme of sharing and selflessly giving. We have read it again and again!
She filled a basket with plums from her plum tree and, covering it over with a white cloth, hung it on her arm. For she said to herself: “There may be those in the world who have apples and need plums.”
In this delightful story, first published in 1915, we meet a kind old woman to whom nothing in the world sounds more delicious than an apple dumpling. She sets out one day with a basket full of plums in search of some apples with which to make her supper. Along the way she meets a colorful assortment of people who make trades with the old woman to help fill their needs, and we learn that when you give selflessly to others, you often end up with what you most desire.
