Well-written, with lots of great information about Carl Linnaeus, yet child friendly and engaging. Beautiful pictures with the recurring inspiring message to never give up.

I love books that bring history and science to life. Here’s the story of the man that created taxonomy, the system of classifying and naming organisms. My kids enjoyed learning the story of the person behind the names. My 10 yo, who loves learning about the medicinal properties of plants, thought it was neat that Carl was a botanist and a doctor and that he used plants to help people heal. I enjoyed the message of Carl’s persistence to learn and to attain his dreams. The illustrations are beautiful!

We really liked this book. Molly Sanchez did a great job teaching us about Carl Linnaeus in an interesting and engaging way. My kids enjoyed the illustrations and fun facts, especially how friends would share their reindeer milk with Carl while he was a poor lecturer.

It felt like we were just enjoying a story but we all learned a lot too. Highly recommended for all ages – especially with the botany science lessons.

Picture Book for All Ages

Have you ever wondered where plant names come from? More than three hundred years ago, a little boy was born who would forever change the way that plants were named. Born in Sweden, Carl Linnaeus was fascinated by the many plants around him, and he thought up a way of naming and grouping plants together that is still used today. He even discovered many new plants along the way. Filled with beautiful illustrations, Carl in the Garden tells the story of one boy who opened a whole new world to those who came after him just by doing what he loved.
