We laughed, cried, and yelled with excitement while reading this book. The setting was wonderfully described and the dachshunds so full of personality. We loved the life lessons Jeanne Marie learned and the wisdom of her mother.
This is a great book! I am in 4th grade and this is my 2nd favorite book! Once I picked it up I couldn’t put it down! I love the dachshunds and how interesting it is. It’s a great book, in my opinion.
The Dachshunds of Mama Island was filled with adventure! We found the secret that was shared at the beginning to cause worry and anxiety through the book. All of that worry was relieved at the end of the book when Jeanne Marie learned a beautiful yet very difficult life lesson.
I liked that the girl learns not to give one puppy special treatment and not to treat one like it was her favorite. She loved all her dogs but was nicer to the hurt one. She was always honest with her parents and I like the part about the funny otter. (10 yr old boy review)
Not only did my third grader love this book but I did too!
On the wilds of Alaska, Mama Island is home to a rocky shore, a sparkling sea, fragrant pine trees, and nine dachshund pups! Jeanne Marie and her parents have their hands full taking care of the wriggling, playful dogs in addition to handling the daily work of building a homestead.
Jeanne Marie loves living with the pups on her very own island, but when she makes a big mistake, she must learn to overcome her guilt and sorrow to become the kind of caretaker her beloved dachshunds deserve.
