This is a cute story of a boy and his family visiting the sea and the dunes. It brings back the days of family vacations exploring nature. It highlights family, nature, and tradition.

This book reminded us of time spent in the Outer Banks catching crabs, collecting seashells, and climbing up the sand dunes to watch the sunset. I read this aloud to my children, but my early readers are glad they can read this one on their own too.

We loved the story of Dax, his adventures at the dunes and the sweet way he helps his sister to have a happy experience. My little guy read me the parts he thought were funny! We only took off a star because although the illustrations were really great, they were black and white and we missed the color!

This is another wonderful reader that is pro family. I love how the characters in this book cherish their family and relationships. It also shows how family traditions can strengthen the family and are passed on. Love that my kids are reading books with these kinds of messages!

In this story, Dax reads a book which leads to a family adventure camping on a beach. Dax is so sweet to his sister who is a little apprehensive about the ocean, and shows her that it’s okay. This is a wonderful story. I only wish the pictures were in color since it is a book for a new emerging reader that may be less excited to try reading it in black and white.
