Famous Floods

This is a beautifully illustrated book about floods. In addition to the gorgeous pictures, there is information about different floods, what causes them, how to prevent them, and what we can do after a flood. It defines some of the terms about floods. This will be a great addition to different science units.

The floods shocked yet fascinated my children, and the images really capture the devastation a flood can wreak. This book can appeal to older and younger children because more advanced vocabulary was explained and sometimes even illustrated so that younger kids can understand their meanings. I liked that the book took a global approach and covered a famous flood on each continent (except for Antarctica, of course). I also appreciated the sections at the end that covered methods we use to prevent or temper floods and how we can be prepared in the event of a flood so that the children don’t feel entirely vulnerable.
