My son received this for the summer reading incentive and read it in a matter of days! He is asking me for more just like it 🙂
We read this aloud to the family, and everyone really enjoyed it! Johnny is thoughtful and hard-working. The kids especially liked Johnny’s love for all animals.
Such a great book and great story! Love that Johnny took it upon himself to earn money to pay back for the damages he caused by leaving the gate open. The children were smart and resourceful when the dangerous flood came and they were considerate and respectful of the farm they found and helped save so many animals!

After exploring the woods with his friends, Johnny McKee makes a quick trip to the nearby Rolf dairy farm to see their horse, Red Boy. He could never guess the terrible situation he would cause due to a simple mistake. Things worsen when a natural disaster hits and Johnny finds himself in an increasingly dangerous situation.
