My son really enjoyed this book. Learning about the kids and their way of life and the adventures they went on. My son loves any book we get from Good and Beautiful Library. They have a great selection.

Great story that exemplified the abilities of young brothers and the hard work, determination, and sacrifices they make being part of a family and community.

Kidlik’s kayak is a great story but what I really enjoyed was the small pictures on the sides of the pages describing different aspects of Kidlik’s culture and life. Cool book!

Both my daughter and son loved this story. We did a Native American unit study and Kidlik’s Kayak fit perfectly with our time learning about the Inuit culture. The illustrations for this story are fantastic and are more than just depictions of what is happening in the story. Many of them are informational and helped my kids understand key vocabulary and imagine the unfamiliar setting. The adventure story kept them engaged while learning about Inuit life at the same time. It is perfect for level 3 students to read independently with some help for pronunciations.

Level 3

Kidlik tried to guide the boat toward the shore. . . . But despite his strongest paddling, they were carried farther and farther down the coast. . . . Now it took all of Kidlik’s skill to guide the boat between masses of floating ice.

Kidlik and his younger brother, Tocktu, are excited to make the long journey by themselves to the icy sealing grounds of the Arctic to hunt for provisions for their family. Come along on this exciting story as Kidlik, no longer a little boy, seeks to prove himself and battles the dangers that await.
