The story stars the animals of a pond: minks, raccoons, otters, beavers and muskrats and follows them through the seasons. The story format is a neat way to see inside their everyday life. Even though we don’t live in an area that has most of these creatures, we enjoyed this story.
Highly recommended for the Mammals Science Unit! It felt like we were watching the commotion of the pond critters right there with the author. This is a perfect read-aloud to help understand what pond life is like in the different seasons. Lots of animals are mentioned in this quick read; the sounds are explained well and the descriptions are perfectly detailed.
Life at the beaver pond is never dull or boring. The ebb and flow of work and play keeps all the little animals there busy throughout the year. With an entertaining storybook style, Mammals of Small Pond offers an insightful look at the day-to-day lives of minks, raccoons, otters, beavers, and muskrats. Follow along as they build homes, find food, teach their little ones, and have a bit of fun as well.
