We loved this book! It was suspenseful but not scary, and the characters were so likable. It was a page turner for sure!

Riveting!

This mystery was riveting from the beginning and had us wanting to read just one more chapter every time one ended. Augusta Seaman included suspense, action, or sudden twists in the plot to keep us on our toes the entire time. It was really fun to read, and I was glad there was nothing scary that would keep a young reader up at night.

If your child loves a good mystery, this is the book for them. Besides a good wholesome mystery, it is full of great writing with descriptive words and literary devices. This one doesn’t disappoint from Augusta Huiell Seaman.

My daughter loved this book because it was a really exciting mystery. She said she didn’t want to go to bed because she wanted to know what happened from one chapter to the next. As a mom of an avid reader, I am so grateful to have this beautiful library to pull from knowing that she will be reading truly good books! Thank you!

“My gracious!” breathed Phyllis. “Did you ever see anything so strange! What can it be?”
“And isn’t it beautiful!” added Leslie. “What can that queer creature be that’s carved on it? Looks to me like the pictures of dragons that we used to have in storybooks.”
“Let’s try now to get it open.”

After arriving at the seashore to care for her sick aunt, Leslie meets Phyllis, and the two girls become instant friends. When Leslie’s dog uncovers a mysterious treasure box, they are eager to figure out where it came from and what it contains. Mysterious lights, shadowy figures, stormy nights, and threatening messages are no match for the determined youngsters who will stop at nothing to solve this mystery. Can they protect the box long enough to discover its secrets?
