My 10 yo loves horse books and Trumper is no exception. Mark begs to give Trumper a chance when his dad wants to sell him for unruly behavior. Through Mark’s love and patience, Trumper learns to excel and even enjoy everything he needs to do for the family. Through their team work and sacrifice, the duo goes on to save the farm during hard times.
My kids 11, 9, and 7 loved this book. We read it aloud and they begged for it every night! My kids describe Mark as courageous, determined and quick to think! He truly shows that hard work and true sacrifice are well worthwhile. I would recommend this book!
Trumper is the story of a boy who longs for a horse and the sacrifices he makes for a horse that just doesn’t seem to be a farm horse. We follow along with Mark and his faith in a horse that no one else thinks will be worth the cost. It’s a heartwarming story.
Mark’s goal, faith in his horse, and hard work make for an inspiring story. Mark is a remarkable young man, and his sacrifice for the family farm demonstrates maturity and selflessness that merits the incredible reward at the end of the book.
Trumper had been a respectable carriage and saddle horse all his life and he wasn’t going to take to the soil just because Tod Sullivan had bought him for his farm!
When Farmer Sullivan purchased Trumper to help with the farm chores, he had no idea the trouble that would follow. It doesn’t take long for the farmer to decide the horse just isn’t worth keeping. But the farmer’s son Mark has faith in the beautiful horse and is determined to train him not only for the farm work, but also to help him win the prized Angus calf at the upcoming 4-H competition.
This inspiring story shares wonderful lessons about seeing the potential in others, patience, perseverance, and celebrating differences.
