Student-led lessons go beyond the basics to include a deep dive into the state’s history, industry, indigenous peoples, notable figures, and government. Each state study features custom–illustrated maps, historical and modern photographs, fun facts, and vocabulary boxes. Quick activities and knowledge checks reinforce learning before progressing to new topics. Addressing a wide variety of subjects in a fun, engaging way provides a refreshing break from core courses.

Essential Social Studies Topics Studied Independently

Core lessons teach foundational social studies topics beyond state history such as the Pledge of Allegiance, the US Census, the work of historians, the structure of federal and state government, and civic responsibility. Written to the student, these courses are designed to be student-led for grades 5+; however, the course may be suitable for students as young as 3rd grade with parental participation.
