I LOVED this book and my fourth-grade daughter did too. We learned a lot about WWII and the Norwegian culture. I appreciated how much honesty, bravery, and the love of family and country was woven throughout this plot.

I loved how this book had suspense and adventure, but still being high on family relationships and descriptive writing. I think it’d be a great read for younger children, so they can learn about WW2 without getting into too much horror. I enjoyed this read and definitely recommend it.

Two of my boys read this book and didn’t love it. They said, it was boring and they often felt bored. Then two of my girls read this after my boys. Each of my girls really liked this book. Both, (my boys and girls), liked the history and the message. I had different ratings from each person, I decided 4 stars was fair. This review just tells that some kids will love this book and some won’t. Each of my children appreciated the story, history, and content. Overall, I’m always pleased with books like this as a mother. Lots of discussions, opinions, and fun.

With daring courage, suspense, twists, and surprise, this book is a great read! This story would appeal to a younger audience too if read aloud.

This is a fantastic book–so suspenseful, I couldn’t put it down! I really loved learning about Norway and I spent some time online after reading this researching fjords and the events of WWII in Norway. This book would make a wonderful companion to a WWII study or to a study about Norway. My 12 yo son loves learning about WWII and he’s also enjoying the book!

Valcos is a peaceful little Norwegian fishing village—that is, until the Nazis quarter themselves in the local families’ homes. The Nazis hope to secure Captain Engeland’s help and the village’s valuable ships, so something must be done to stop them. Fourteen-year-old Petra Engeland, her brother, and others in the village unite to oppose the enemy through daring rescues, ingenious plans, and life-or-death missions. Filled with suspenseful action and beautiful description, On the Edge of the Fjord tenderly illustrates devotion to family and country, comradery between young and old, and courage in the face of adversity.
