As a mother of a daughter with some physical disabilities, I loved how this story showed Lena’s struggle with ballet initially but her ability to improve as she kept trying and didn’t give up! My daughter loved it!
Another great book about not giving up!
This resonated more with my young daughter than my son but it was still a wonderful chapter book that all enjoyed. When you fall, try try again! Literally!
Lena: a girl practicing growth mindset
A. liked that Lena worked hard and practiced to get better. With both of my girls who read it, we discussed all of the parallels in Lena’s story with the lessons we learned about growth mindset, which we had just studied in previous months and had been focusing on, so this book was a great tie-in.
C. took a couple of months to get this book read. She rated it 4 stars, but it took her a while to make that determination. Despite liking the subject matter, she hadn’t as fully enjoyed the experience of reading the book. The pages and the chapters weren’t very uniform in their length, so some pages had what felt like a lot of text and that is a bit daunting to her at this stage in her reading skill. The chapters that were fairly lengthy were tiresome for her. I wish it had been stretched out a little and divided into more even chapters. It likely would have been more enjoyable for her.
Love this book!
This is such a cute story. My 6 year old loves having her very own first chapter book!
Beautiful story of perseverance
We loved Lena’s example of never giving up on her dream, even in the face of discouragement.
“Lena wanted to dance. More than anything else in the world, she wanted to twirl and leap and dance around on her toes.”
Lena dreams of being a dancer and doing big, beautiful leaps for everyone to see. But first, she has to learn how! It will take both dance lessons and life lessons for Lena to learn how to dance. Lena will have to work very hard to be ready for her big recital. Will she have the perfect leap ready in time?
