Effective and Meaningful All-in-One Language Arts
“I am just blown away that my reluctant writer is able to write with confidence with this curriculum.”
“I [have seen] my son’s reading comprehension soar this year….”
“I am impressed by how much [my son’s] vocabulary and reasoning skills have increased in this level.”
These are only a few of the hundreds of amazing comments we received from pilot families about the newly revised Level 7 Language Arts Course. This academically rich and well-planned course integrates reading, writing, grammar and usage, memorization, and spelling, along with vocabulary, geography, literature, poetry, and art. Packed with learning, the thoughtful teaching and intentional design of this course help connect students with God, nature, and family. Pilot families loved the self-directed, easy-to-use course and reported their students making great strides in spelling, writing, reading, comprehension, and more.
Self-Directed Course to Encourage Student Independence
Our Level 7 Language Arts Course has a balance of written and online work for the student, with written lessons including warm-ups, grammar and usage exercises, sentence diagramming, reading comprehension passages, editing practice, vocabulary reviews, and more. The online portion of the course contains videos that teach new grammar concepts, Vocabulary & Reading Skills passages, Geography & Grammar Cards, a word processor and writing checklists, and art videos with projects in acrylic painting.
Each of the six units cover a geographical region and have a theme such as personal growth or the power of empathy. The correlated books provide not just engaging literature, but a springboard for discussing literary concepts, reading comprehension questions, vocabulary practice, Greek & Latin Roots exercises, and book discussions that teach students how to think and talk about literature. Each lesson also directs students to complete a lesson in our online Simply Spelling app.
Varied, Scaffolded Writing Exercises That Develop Confident Writers
Level 7 students practice writing at the sentence, paragraph, and essay level with exercises focusing on note-taking, outlining, essay writing, summaries, creative writing, and poetry. Lessons on topic sentences, improving style, developing a thesis statement, writing a conclusion, creating dialogue, and the components of a short story are woven throughout the course. Students type their works-in-progress directly into the word processor in the online app. Scaffolded lessons walk students step-by-step through concepts and increase independence in writing.
So much learning is packed into this one course! While a step up in challenge, Level 7 Language Arts keeps the gentle, beautiful learning that is the hallmark of the award-winning language arts courses from The Good and the Beautiful. Recommended Resources for Level 7 Language Arts Course Set:
- Simply Spelling: Meteors & Mountains
- Quick Reference Guide
- Handwriting Workbook: Level 7
Our Simply Spelling Practice Books are an optional recommended resource to be used independently by students after each Simply Good and Beautiful Spelling session to practice any words and spelling rules they got incorrect. Practice books can be used with any level, though the levels have recommended themes, and students will need their own consumable book for each level. With fun themes and activities, these books provide engaging ways for students to practice and review spelling words and rules in ways that use different learning methods and require the child to actually write out words that they need the most help with, segment them, and practice them in varied ways.
The non-consumable Quick Reference Guide is an optional but highly recommended resource for Language Arts Levels 4–8. The course book references this guide throughout, so students can quickly and easily review concepts and definitions they may be struggling with. It includes reference charts—such as abbreviations, editing marks, literary terms, sentence diagramming steps, all grammar concepts covered in these levels, and all Levels 4–8 vocabulary words. This half-page, wire-bound guide is designed to stay open and accessible while students work without taking up much space. Purchase one per child or one per family to support your child’s Language Arts learning.
We highly recommend adding a handwriting course, as direct handwriting instruction is not included in our Language Arts courses.
We also recommend Good and Beautiful Typing for students who need typing instruction in grades 3 and up. Click here to learn more.
