Mary Helen and the Black Pony
by Molly Sanchez
Overcoming Fears with Help
This story of overcoming fears with help from God, family, and a horse was enjoyed by my younger children.
Beautiful, inspiring book!
This is a dynamic story that hit home for my shy, quiet daughter. I love how Mary Helen turns to her parents for help when she feels too scared to talk to people, and how they point her to God, all amid a fun and interesting story about horses and friends.
A lesson for all of us
My 9 year old daughter read this one before I did and she told me that I should read it because it was really good! I loved the message that it takes time for us to grow and overcome our fears. It’s something I hope to keep in mind in regard to others and myself.
Courage, Kindness, Faith, and Horses
This is a sweet story about a young girl whose love of horses and faith in God helps her to overcome her fears. My 6 year old boy who loves horses was enthralled with this book.
Face Your Fears
This book is about a little girl who is shy and faces her fears with the help of a horse. It was a good problem solver book to read.
Level 2B
Mary Helen is a happy little girl who loves God, family, friends, and horses. But Mary Helen has a problem–she’s too shy to talk to anyone else! Grown-ups and older kids seem too scary to talk to, so she can only lower her head and say nothing at all. Find out how Mary Helen is able to grow and face her fears through God’s love, some helpful advice from her parents, and caring for a beautiful black pony named Moki.
